History:
Delivered to Pan Am on May 6, 1977. Pan Am had requested from Boeing for a smaller version of the Boeing 747-100 to service a full flight from New York to Tehran. At the time that flight was the longest non-stop flight. The Boeing 747SP was created to compete with the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar while keeping commonality with full size 747s. On February 13, 1986 N536PA was changed to N145US and flew with United Airlines and in October 20, 1997 was transferred to NASA. This 747SP was stored in November 1997 to December 2010 and then was operational until it was stored again in October 2022.
